Eclipse 2024 – Top 10 Placements in a Space or Science Fiction Movie

One cannot help but marvel at the powerful beauty of space as we brace ourselves for the total solar eclipse on April 8th. Celestial events of this magnitude do not happen that often; in fact, the next total solar eclipse will not happen again in the United States for another 20 years. So, get your eclipse 2024 viewers ready and safely gaze in wonder at this rare event!
APM knows a thing or two about space. Here are our top 10 placements in movies about Space Exploration or Science Fiction:
#10 - Terminator: Dark Fate (2019) - Arnold Schwarzenegger’s famous “I’ll be back” promise was actualized in this Terminator franchise sequel. Watch Sarah Connor battle The Terminator and save the world at the same time featuring music from the Rhymez and Cezame music libraries.
#9 - The Astronaut's Wife (1999) - There are unknown forces at work in this classic 90s space thriller starring Johnny Depp and Charlize Theron. Find out what happened in those two minutes Johnny was lost in space with the help from music by Sonoton, Primrose, and KPM.
#8 - Cloverfield (2008) - Creatures from outer space descend on the city in the first installment of the Cloverfield franchise by J.J. Abrams. Check out Not So Easy by KPM and Sunday Ticket from the NFL Music Library used in this soundtrack to score the end of the world.
#7 – Plan 9 from Outer Space (1957) - Not all Sci-Fi movies were a hit. In fact, Plan 9 from Outer Space bombed so badly at the box office that it became a cult classic celebrated in the 1990s blockbuster Ed Wood. APM has the original film score from the JW Media Music library which will live on in Hollywood infamy!
#6 – War of the Worlds (2005) - This Stephen Spielberg picture depicts an alien invasion of epic proportions starring Tom Cruise and Dakota Fanning. The fight for humanity is on! Check out Kommissar X from Gerhard Treade and Bruton’s Footsteps of Horror in the film.
#5 - Elysium (2013) - This Sci-Fi thriller depicts Earth as a dystopian wasteland in 2154 and stars Matt Damon and Jodie Foster. Even this futuristic world appreciates the genius of Bach and features Suite For Solo Cello No.1 BWV 1007 from the KPM Classical catalog in its soundtrack.
#4 – X-Men Franchise (First Class (2011), Days of Future Past (2014), Apocalypse (2016), Logan (2017)) - APM is all over this legendary superhero franchise based on the Marvel comic book series by Stan Lee. We have tracks in the films as well as a KPM track sampled in Run (I’m A Natural Disaster) by Gnarles Barkley in First Class. One of my personal Old School Hip-Hop favorites Let Me Hear You Say Hey from Bruton can be heard in Apocalypse.
#3 – Signs (2002) - M. Night Shyamalan scared the bejesus out of us with this alien invasion thriller starring Mel Gibson and Joaquin Phoenix. On a not-so-scary note, the calm and soothing Time for Romance by KPM levels out the drama in the soundtrack.
#2 – Nope (2022) - The title says it all. In this Jordan Peele film, UFOs descend into a small California town and bring strange phenomena that would best be avoided. Check out the fun and spirited tracks by Stacks to Tracks and Primrose to lighten the mood.
#1 – The Right Stuff (1983) - This classic film about the U.S. Space Program was nominated for 8 Academy Awards and won 4. Bill Conti’s Oscar-winning score reflects the hopeful adventure of the space race and the astronauts who made history. The elegant Tango de Valentino from the KPM library spices up the soundtrack.

The Monday, April 8, 2024, total solar eclipse will cross North America, passing over Mexico, the United States, and Canada. The total solar eclipse will begin over the South Pacific Ocean. Weather permitting, the first location in continental North America that will experience totality is Mexico’s Pacific coast at around 11:07 a.m. PDT.
The path of the eclipse continues from Mexico, entering the United States in Texas, and traveling through Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. Small parts of Tennessee and Michigan will also experience the total solar eclipse. The eclipse will enter Canada in Southern Ontario, and continue through Quebec, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Cape Breton. The eclipse will exit continental North America on the Atlantic coast of Newfoundland, Canada, at 5:16 p.m. NDT.
