Hélène Muddiman
Composer & performer of the full-length feature film, SKIN
Hélène Muddiman is an established composer and performer, who was honored with an Ivor Novello nomination in the Film Composer category in 2010. She is the first woman in a decade to be nominated in this prestigious category.
Hélène’s original score for the full-length feature film, Skin, brought her the prominent Ivor nomination. The film stars Academy Award Nominee Sophie Okonedo (Hotel Rwanda) and Sam Neill (Jurassic Park). Skin premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in Sepetmber 2008, prior to its worldwide cinema release.
Hélène is classically trained and plays a range of instruments including guitar, bass, keyboards, and piano. Hélène's first success was with a pop band, Hoorah Boys Hoorah!, signed to EMI Records in the 1980s. She began writing for KPM Music in 1992, and her tracks have been used in world-renowned television programs such as Mr. Bean, and The Frost Programme. As a composer/arranger she has written many scores for film and TV, as well as songs for commercial artists including Emma Bunton, Elvis Costello, Gary Numan, King, and Alison Limerick. In 1996, she started to write commercial songs again and has performed as a solo artist in Britain and abroad.
Hélène shifted her focus to film and composed a score for Jean, which went on to win first prize Best Short Film Drama at the I-film festival in Los Angeles, and Best Short Film at the Barcelona Lesbian and Gay Film Festival. She also composed original scores for the short films A Fist Full of Pizza and Candy.
